My name is JB Ablaza Macatulad and I love all
things creative.
Originally from the Philippines, I moved to
Rhode Island in 1988 for boarding school. I
then proceeded to receive a BA in English
Literature from Georgetown University in 1996,
where I learned to fake a lot of diseases, wear
baggy clothing and stare at the ceilings of
abandoned warehouses wondering, “what the
hell am i doing with my life?”
It was only when I found my way out to San
Francisco did I realize that art & design was the
only thing I really wanted to do. After receiving
a BFA in Fine Art / Illustration from the
Academy of Art in 2000, I worked as a web
designer for thriveonline, the award-winning
healthcare division of Oprah Winfrey’s high-
profile website for women, oxygen.com.
Having relocated back to the Philippines in 2001, I’m now happily married and working as a freelance designer while squeezing in a few oil painting exhibits between projects.
